Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Tomball Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Linear-compatible welding and fabrication parts for gate repair in Tomball, with most bracket, hinge, and frame reinforcement jobs running between $275 and $850 installed depending on the part and the weld time involved. If your Linear gate has a cracked hinge, a torn post bracket, or a bent gate frame member, we can usually get it welded and back in service the same day we look at it. Most Tomball owners discover the problem the hard way: the gate starts dragging on the driveway or the opener strains and trips its own limit before the weld finally lets go.

What separates a clean Linear gate repair from a repeat failure is knowing where the load concentrates on each model line. The Linear swing-arm operator mounts carry a lot of twisting force through two small tabs, and when those tabs crack at the weld root, the gate sags and the motor fights itself. We see it regularly on older Linear LRA and APeX series openers across Tomball driveways, especially after a few hard Texas summers have worked the steel through enough heat cycles to expose any weld that was marginal from the start.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

The welding and fabrication work we do covers the full range of Linear swing and slide gate setups still running in Tomball. That includes the Linear LRA dual swing-gate actuator, the APeX series, the older Elite-compatible Linear slide operators, and the lighter-duty residential Linear actuators that show up on single swing gates. The part geometry matters more than the model badge: a hinge bracket from an LRA setup is not interchangeable with one from a smaller Linear residential opener, even when both look close enough at a glance.

If you can read the part number off the old bracket or hinge before you call, it helps us bring the right steel on the first trip. The Linear casting numbers are usually stamped on the inside face of the bracket where the mounting bolts pass through. If the number is gone or the bracket is too mangled to read, we take measurements on site and match the working dimensions: bolt-hole spread, plate thickness, and the offset between the pivot center and the mounting face. For OEM Linear parts, the original cast brackets are often not available separately anymore, which means we fabricate a replacement from steel plate that matches or exceeds the original thickness. Quality aftermarket steel with a proper weld bead usually outlasts the original factory bracket in Tomball’s heat-and-humidity cycle because we match the material to the load rather than to whatever the original casting allowed for cost reasons.

OEM vs. Fabricated Replacement

When the OEM Linear bracket is still available through distribution, we quote it and install it. When it is not, we fabricate. The honest truth is that a well-fabricated steel bracket with full-penetration welds and a cold-galvanized finish will usually outlive a cast OEM part in this climate. Cast aluminum brackets and Texas clay soil do not mix well over a decade: the soil shifts, the gate post moves a few degrees, and the casting cracks where the bolt holes are closest to the edge. Fabricated plate steel gives us room to add material exactly where the original part failed, which is why we often recommend fabrication even when the OEM part can still be ordered.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • Gate sags or drags on the driveway at the latch end. The top hinge weld has stretched or cracked, letting the gate frame drop. This puts extra load on the opener and wears the limit switch contacts faster than normal.
  • Opener trips its internal overload or stops mid-travel. The motor is working against a misaligned gate that no longer swings true. The amp draw goes up, the control board sees it, and the gate parks itself rather than tearing the bracket off the post.
  • Visible crack at a weld joint or mounting tab. These cracks usually start at the edge of the weld where the heat-affected zone is weakest. In Tomball’s humidity, rust lines bleeding from the crack make it easier to spot, especially on older unpainted or rattle-canned gates.
  • Gate post moves or flexes when the gate is opened by hand. The post bracket is still bolted on, but the welds holding the bracket to the post sleeve have broken underneath. The gate still opens, but every cycle is working the post loose in the concrete footing.
  • Loud creak, pop, or snapping sound at the hinge during travel. That is the sound of metal fatigue announcing itself. A cracked weld makes noise under load long before it fails completely, and we would rather weld a noisy hinge than replace a dropped gate and a bent opener arm.

If the gate is still opening and closing but making any of these sounds or movements, get it looked at before it fails completely. A gate that drops off its hinges takes the opener arm with it, and that turns a $300 weld job into a $900+ operator repair.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Tomball, most Linear welding and fabrication repairs fall into three price bands. Hinge and bracket re-welding in place runs $275 to $450. Fabricating a new steel bracket or hinge plate from scratch runs $400 to $700 with install. Full gate-frame repair involving multiple weld points, straightening, and reinforcement runs $550 to $850 depending on how much of the frame has to be cut out and rebuilt. You get a written price before any work starts, and that price includes the weld time, consumable materials, grinding, and whatever finish coating the repaired area needs to hold up in Tomball weather.

What drives the range is material thickness and access. A top hinge on a standard single swing gate is a straightforward hour of work. A bottom hinge on a gate set close to the ground in a low spot behind Boudreaux Road might need the gate lifted, the area cleaned out, and twice the weld time to get a sound joint. We quote it in writing at the site, hand it to you, and the number on the page is the number on the invoice when we leave. That is Haven Standard Clause 1, and we have been working that way since Adrian Vance started this company in 2014.

What the Price Includes

Some parts of a Linear gate you can check and adjust yourself: limit switch settings, remote programming, photo-eye alignment. Welding is not one of them. A gate weld under load is a structural joint carrying hundreds of pounds of steel, and a bad weld does not fail slowly. It snaps, and the gate drops, and whatever is under it takes the hit kid, dog, car bumper. Even setting aside the safety risk, a homeowner-grade welder from the big box store does not have the penetration to handle a gate hinge load for more than a season or two. The gate works for a while, then it falls on a Tuesday night when the rain has finally worked through the cold joint.

If you are comfortable checking the obvious: stand beside the gate and watch the hinge welds while someone swings it slowly. If you see movement at the joint that is not just the hinge pin rotating, the weld is compromised. Do not try to weld it yourself with a 110-volt flux-core machine and a YouTube video. Call us at (346) 248-7685, and a technician will look at it, quote it in writing, and weld it properly with equipment matched to the material thickness.
